Ramses
DJ Ramses had originally wanted to study medicine in Guadalajara. He had always liked music but more as a quiet spectator than an active creator of new sounds and beats.
His passion for music blossomed the first time he walked into a gay bar in what was then a sleepy little fishing village on Puerto Vallarta´s west coast at the age of 17.
“I was just a baby at the time underage, excited, confused, rebellious and walked into what was then Vallarta´s premier club ‘Los Balcones’. I had always loved music but mainly pop and R&B but the first time I walked in and saw the throng of men dancing together I knew I wanted to be a part of it.”
Ramses quickly insinuated his was into the Vallarta scene and made friends with the leading DJs at the time to begin to learn their trade. His first ‘gig’ was at a friend’s private party mixing scratched records on a set of wobbly turn tables.
He worked as a replacement DJs for a couple of years, as his young age prevented people from taking him seriously, but he was determined to prove to the city he knew how to spin. Finally after much work he landed a permanent gig at vallarta’s Balcones the place that had inspired his love of music in the first place.
“My music style has really evolved and developed over the years. When I was a kid I played the remixed pop versions, like any 18 year old kid I was fascinated by Madonna and all the divas. While I still appreciate a good pop classic remix my stylistic rerpetoire now includes so many more genres. When I started, I played for myself, now I get an absolute thrill playing to the crowd and taking them on journey that builds to crescendo.”
Since then, Ramses has been building an international following and is dedicating his time to creating his own sound. He was invited for a residency at the notorious Parking Club in Monterrey and has toured extensively in all the major centres throughout his native Mexico and in Canada.
Ramses has been instrumental in getting Latin Fever and NYEPV events off the ground and has played at everyone of their events for the past 11 years. He originally started as a supporting DJ but now shares top billing with some of America´s most innovative and exciting DJs.
“I don´t need a stadium to play, what I need are people that are willing to let themselves go for a few hours and let me take them to a different level. Dance music is community.”
